Not exactly what I was expecting ....fun times with the Porsche 911 996 cooling system this week. It turns out that a Low-Temp Thermostat does not lower the temperature of your cooling system, it just allows it to do its job sooner and more often. Porsche 996 911 with the M96 engine are not known for having problems with running cold, they have a reputation for hotspots in the cylinders that can lead to a weakening of the cylinder walls. The benefits of a Low-Temperature Thermostat seem a good fit for Porsche water-cooled engines like those found in the 996, 997 Carrera, Boxster, and Cayman.
